In aid of Andy Laird’s fightback fund and MNDA, on Saturday 25th July, I will run 100km in a day!
Andy’s courageous fight against motor neurone disease, and his fantastic efforts of raising money by completing his triathlon, are truly inspiring. His son, Chris, smashing out 100km of running in the month of May was a fantastic achievement (especially with the state of his trainers even when he first started!). These superb accomplishments have inspired me to help out and contribute by completing my own challenge.
Starting at 0600 from Endcliffe Park in Sheffield, I will run (and most likely walk parts of) 100km around Sheffield and the surrounding areas in the Peak District, before returning to Endcliffe Park at 2100 on the same day.
I plan on doing this largely unsupported and solo, but will welcome any help or company along the way.
I have planned a route that takes in some of my favourite running spots in the area, including Wyming Brook, Fox Hagg, Damflask and Agden reservoirs, Ladybower reservoir, Stanage Edge and Burbage. This route should come in at 100km. Anything short of this will be topped up with laps of Endcliffe Park.
I have an aim of competing this run in under 15 hours, meaning I get back to Endcliffe before 2100.
I have competed this distance once before in a day, and while it allows me to see some beautiful sights, it can also be a gruelling and hideous challenge. In this case I certainly feel it’s worth subjecting myself to the discomfort, so that we can support Andy and the fight against motor neurone disease.
